Using Herbs For Insomnia Relief: Valerian Root

When investigating the best herbs for insomnia treatment, Valerian comes up almost invariably. And this is with good reason, because people have been using Valerian Root extract for many years, even in the Ancient Worlds of Greece and Rome. Learning from history is always a good idea and in this case the cliche is true.

As anyone who has suffered bouts of insomnia can tell you, counting sheep is no fun. Neither is looking at the alarm clock and figuring out how much sleep you could get if you fell asleep immediately. If you’ve decided to try herbs for Insomnia, there are alternatives to Valerian as well as formulations designed with this and other herbs in a “synergistic” mix. Although the debate can be conducted logically on either side, the common thinking is that Valerian Root is a very good natural/ herbal supplement that can help get sleep patterns back in order. An innocuous, flowering plant, Valerian is harmless and helpful unless taken in large doses, much like Aspirin.

This herb is not only effective, it’s also inexpensive in both pill and powdered form. As with anything you want to try, be aware that your driving ability may be affected if you take this, so consider making sure you’re in for the night. Valerian Root is classified as a Nutritional Supplement, which means it does not have to pass any of the typical Food and Drug Administration testing. Use this as incentive to purchase a good, high quality brand, should you decide to try this herb. Valerian Root Extract is the best and most effective of the herbs for insomnia treatment.
