Sleep Disorder Good Sleeping Habits
Among many important benefits to the body and health of a human being, sleep plays an important role. These are just but a few of the many uses associated with sleep, it enables the body to repair itself, it reduces inflammation, it helps prevent depression and increases memory. A sleep disorder can be termed simply as lack of sleep.
Getting to little sleep makes us age prematurely. It causes the pancreas to decrease its production of thyrotrophin (TSH) a hormone that stimulates the thyroid and causes an increase in cortisol which is involved in stress responses. Getting enough sleep is as important to your good health as exercise and nutrition, but your sleep-wakefulness cycle can be altered for several reasons.
For one to have a good sleep there are some guidelines that one should take time to carefully look at and as well as understand and try as much as possible to practice them, as they have helped many to overcome their sleeping disorders. These are just but the Do’s and Don’ts for one to get good sleep.
To have a good sleep one needs to go to bed at a regular time, this means that one should go to bed and get up at the same time everyday even if one hasn’t slept well. This follows that one should have a relaxing bedtime routine so that your body and mind will know it’s time for sleep. But if you aren’t sleepy I would highly advice you to get up and do something that doesn’t involve any effort such as reading an interesting magazine or book. Also if you still lacking sleep it’s advisable to check the side effects of the medicines you may be taking as some may contain stimulants.
One is also advised to eat their supper several hours before bedtime and it should mainly constitute of carbohydrates as they are more digestible and contain tryptophan, which is transformed into serotonin. Also one should sleep in a cool room as too much heat may lead to no sleep.
According to Mr Ilchi Lee Brain Educator some of the things to avoid before bedtime include; don’t do strenuous physical or mental exercise in the hour before bedtime as they make one sweat a lot and hence can’t get sleep easily due to the heat produced during the exercise. One should also avoid taking beverages like coffee and tea before going to bed as they are stimulants and help keep one awake. Avoid also taking alcohol and smoking before bedtime.
In conclusion a sleeping disorder shouldn’t be seen as an enemy but rather as a sign that the body is asking for a change. So lets practice the few guidelines outlined and we will reduce the many cases of sleep disorders been reported and dealt with everyday in the society. Save your money from seeing a psychologist and let’s help ourselves by living healthy lives with enough sleep.
